I love cats but sometimes cats are not great to have around while you are arting.
I have a crazy tortoiseshell named Jewel. She is a bit of a wild child/huntress. Her hobbies include randomly galloping through the house, torturing mice and scratching up the furniture.
I know my blog is about art but this needs to be shared. I can't count how many times this girl has interfered with my art. She has knocked over my jar of dirty paint water onto my carpet. She's jumped on my palette and left a trail of green footprints across my floor. She's walked on top of a fresh pour painting, not to mention the hairs that get stuck in my varnish. You name it she's done it.
Last night was probably the worst of all offenses, and the reason for this post.
I decided to record a video of me painting with my good DSLR Nikon camera, but I only have a cheap monopod. After I was done painting I moved the camera and monopod behind our recliner to get it out of the way. I have no studio at the moment so I'm painting in my living room/dining room. As I was cleaning up my paints and brushes Jewel ran into the living room (everything at top speed) and jumped on the back of the recliner, knocking over the monopod with my camera.
I stood in horror as it all crashed to the floor. The UV filter shattered into a thousand pieces and the lens bent 😱.
I was almost in tears. The camera wasn't working with the lens so I took the lens off and put on my zoom lens and luckily it worked. For the rest of the day I was searching for a replacement lens online and couldn't find one for less than $200. Not something I could spend on myself before Christmas for sure.
Luckily my husband Dan was able to pop the lens back into place. It's not as smooth as it was but its usable.
Jewel, I love you, but please don't ruin my art career 😅.
